GREEN LIGHT PRODUCTS - These are exemplary items that especially embody our values. Whenever possible, these products will be kept at eye level and at reasonable prices. They will also be featured on end caps and at demos.
- Organic & GMO-free
- Locally produced
- Socially responsible business or product
- Exceptionally nutritious
- Minimally processed and packaged
YELLOW LIGHT PRODUCTS - These are products that have positive qualities or are necessary due to customer demand, but also have ingredients, packaging, labeling or ethical concerns. Educational information should be easily accessible to the customer regarding these issues.
- Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO’s)
- Sugar, in all its many forms
- Non-organic fruit sweeteners
- Fructose, high fructose corn syrup
- Excessive Packaging
- Any product with an animal ingredient (dairy, eggs, etc…)
- Disposable or throwaway products
- Misleading labels
- Unethical labor or business practices
- Highly processed ingredients considered “natural” (maltodextrin etc…)
RED LIGHT PRODUCTS - These items are banned from the store.
- Meat, Poultry, or Fish (except in pet food)
- Irradiated food
- Tobacco
- Alcoholic beverages
- Products tested on animals
- Eggs form hens in cages
- Sugar that has been bone charcoaled
- Bleached white flour
- Cottonseed oil
- Partially hydrogenated and hydrogenated oils or margarine
- Artificial or harmful additives or ingredients (sweetener, colors, flavors, MSG, preservatives etc…)
- Weight-loss/gain, body building or anti-aging products that use unethical or disrespectful advertising or marketing.
- Boycotts per guidelines
SUPPLEMENT EXCEPTION - Due to lack of alternatives and customer demand, our supplements department is exempt from our Product Policy. We will strive to choose the most ethical products available whenever possible.
